Shadow Shot Mr. Swanee

I was working on the deck the other day,

when I looked up to see Mr. Swanee...

Normally not very friendly, he had walked

from the pond up to the driveway.

He was giving me some great shadows,

so I grabbed my camera and started snapping away!!

You can see his mouth open...

he was giving me a little hiss-

just in case I might be thinking he had walked all the way

up to the deck because he likes me!!!

OK....enough is enough -

time for a little rest!!

My red picture this week is a WALL!!!

When we bought this old farmhouse, this stove was here left behind by the family of the previous owners,

electric AND wood burning...

Since we were never too sure about the chimney, we never used the wood burning oven.

Although wouldn't it be interesting to bake a loaf of bread using wood???

I'm sure the original owner of this centennial farm - Mrs. Nyman

had it perfected to a "T"

(I would have probably burned countless loaves before giving up!!)

We do know the electric part works-

we spent a couple of Thanksgivings here when it was just a get away place,

twice we cooked a turkey in the little oven.

We have not used it since we remodeled,

instead we have framed it with a RED wall

and given this old stove a place of honor in our kitchen.

Springtime Teapots

As a collector of teapots - among other things....see previous post-

I have decided it is way past time to participate in one of the many memes

about.....tea things!!

So for this first visit I have chosen a couple that seem right for this time of year-

and they both were given to me by my sister.

This tea set - that looks like pastel colored flowered says Springtime!!!

And of course an Easter Bunny teapot!!

Shoe Mosaic

When I was a little girl my mom & I would visit Aunt Maude

and I was always fascinated by her collection of little glass shoes.

They were everywhere,

tabletops, shelves and especially window sills

where the sunshine would make them

SPARKLE!!

While on a trip West Virginia when I was 9 years old,

I found a beautiful little shoe covered in shells and glitter

and mom suggested I start my own collection.

All these years later I still have my collection....

here are a few of my shoes.

My 1st shoe -

48 years and countless moves later!!

You can kind of understand how 9 year-old me

fell in love with this little shoe.

Looking out my side-yard -

wispy clouds and if you look very close

you can see the moon - it is a tiny little spot

to the left of the tree

the sky was filled with fluffy white clouds

Well it is spring!!!

And we have had lots of sNoW and VeRy cold temps this week.

One good thing...

Shadows look great against the snow!

You will notice my kitty Mimi under the bird feeders -

she is a house kitty that usually stays on the deck to enjoy the sun.

I was very surprised to see her perched under the bird feeders-

I shot the pic, then opened the door and said

"Girlfriend I don't want you there" and she came running in the door.

~ Since she usually ignores me when she is outdoors,

I'm thinkin' she just wanted her picture taken..;-) ~

It has been very pretty -

BUT

I think it's time for a little spring-like weather!!

My only thrifty find this week was these 2 little vases.

I liked their bright colors and the price was right -

59 cents for the orange and 29 cents for the blue !!

I also want to share a find from several weeks ago -

I was at a department store when I saw a salesperson.....

with markdown gun in hand....

CLICK, CLICK, CLICKING

on several jewelry displays....

Well, I had been wanting some of this big clunky jewelry

but even at 30 or 40 % off it was more than I wanted to pay -

THEN on this day that little gun was spitting out little pink tags that said

2.97.......EVERYTHING was $2.97!!!!

Oh yeah......that was a good shopping day for sure!!!!

I have found a couple of new stores lately -- also went to an estate sale which was too expensive for me -- and spent some time visiting outlet stores looking for clearance sales!!
And this is what I found -

At a little consignment shop close to home, I got this set of bowls for $5.00

At another larger consignment shop, I got this fabric wall hanging for $3.00 -

And this little photo frame Christmas tree had never been unpacked from the box for $5.00

My least expensive find was at an outlet store where I found this Christmas T-shirt that cost me a whopping 75 cents!!!

While taking a walk in a field full of Queen Anne's Lace, I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures. I also took some cuttings and placed them with my milk glass collection - so pretty!

When I was young I had never heard of Queen Anne's Lace - this wildflower was known to me only as

wild carrot.....funny how it seems more delicate, more beautiful now!

This belltower was struck by lightening, he brought it home - restored it to it's original beauty and now we have a very unique "belltower lawn ornament"!!

Earlier this summer we visited a little shop that had some very unique and beautiful lawn and garden decorations. The suns rays shining down on all the different colored glass was gorgeous.

I took this photo a few years ago. Unfortunately my sunflowers did not fare as well this year. First we had a ground hog (or two or three) that loved the taste of tender young sunflower plants, then we had a couple that were well on their way to becoming big, beautiful plants when a windstorm broke the stems right off. Oh well, there's always next year!!!

This is my color carnival post for this week...but, what exactly is it?????

Well, it is a very colorful set of sheets! My mom has recently come to stay with us and decided she wanted some purple sheets - we went to a couple of stores and no purple. In her words they had lots of beige, but who wants beige??!! Then she saw these with the colorful polka-dots and decided they would do just fine!

By the way, mom will be turning 92 next month, which just proves that you are NEVER too old to enjoy some beautiful, bright color in your life!

This is my very purple ladder...isn't it pretty??? The potted rose is just posing on the ladder for the picture, waiting to find it's permanent place in the garden. I have a purple room. It is a combination craft room - library - office. It has high shelves so I need a (purple) ladder to reach my "stuff". I am in the process of doing a little re-organizing in my room, when I finish I will post a pic of my purple ladder in my purple room!!

These shots are exactly as they came out of the camera. The first was taken about a minute sooner and zoomed in on the mass of clouds.
I was fortunate to have lived on the lake for several years. I kept my camera on the coffee table and captured many spectacular sunrises.

That is why I decided to number them in the title .... there will be more.

More heavy rains this week, which has again left lots of puddles! Now if only we could have a week of nice warm days and nights maybe things would speed up a bit. We transplanted an Annabelle Hydrangea near the fence, it was not happy in it's previous location and is rather sickly looking at the moment. I will give it a little TLC and maybe it will produce some of those magnificent white flowers it is famous for!

I don't know about you, but I am ready to see a little color here! Not much new this week - I did get the flower pot and the bird feeder structure (except for the very top) painted.

Now, if you were to walk up to the window on the left and peek in, this is what you would see through the screen today. My orchid cactus in full of blooms and the huge fuschia colored flowers seem to be opening before my eyes.

I just discovered a new meme....a PURPLE meme....and I LOVE the color purple!! So I immediately grabbed my camera to shoot something purple. Here is a picture of my quilts....

and a close-up of my purple quilt. I think this quilt is beautiful. It was made by my cousin and given to us as a wedding gift a few years before she died....it is very special to me.

Shot was taken a little lower this week, so we can see the fountain/birdbath. We now have our Hummingbird feeders up - the Hummingbirds returned last weekend. (We saw an Oriole at the feeder today!) Hubby moved the chairs and the swans feeder. He also added dirt to fill in some tracks in the yard. The flower pot holds a Canna that got nipped by the frost.
